U4GM - 7 High-Risk, High-Reward Rune Farming Routes in Elden Ring

Farming runes in Elden Ring can be a thrilling experience, especially when you’re willing to take on dangerous areas for massive rewards. Throughout my journey in the Lands Between, I’ve tested dozens of farming routes—some efficient but slow, others fast but perilous. For players who crave action and want to amass a wealth of Elden Ring Runes quickly, the high-risk, high-reward paths are unmatched.

Here are 7 of the most intense, yet rewarding rune farming routes I’ve encountered—each offering huge payoffs if you’re skilled and persistent enough.

1. Mohgwyn Palace: Albinauric Slaughter

Risk Level: HighReward: ~40,000+ runes per run

Accessible via a portal from White Mask Varre's questline or by using the Pureblood Knight's Medal, this route involves killing clusters of Albinaurics just outside the Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance. With a high-damage AoE build (I used Comet Azur and Swarm of Flies interchangeably), I could farm nearly 1 million runes per hour. The risk? Invaders and the possibility of over-aggression pulling in too many enemies.

2. Haligtree Soldiers – Elphael Inner Wall

Risk Level: Very HighReward: 50,000+ runes per run

The Haligtree is one of the toughest endgame areas. Farming here is not for the faint-hearted. The soldiers near the Inner Wall Site of Grace hit hard, but I discovered that by luring them into choke points and using bleed or frost weapons, I could clear waves quickly. This spot became a late-game go-to for me when I needed to top off my rune pool before leveling.

3. Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave

Risk Level: HighReward: ~60,000+ runes per run

This catacomb-style dungeon near the Mountaintops of the Giants features Crucible Knights and powerful shadow enemies. The trick is using the light mechanic to make enemies vulnerable—but messing it up means death. I died dozens of times before learning the patterns, but the rune return per run made it worthwhile. Definitely not ideal for low-Vigor builds.

4. Dragonbarrow: Farum Greatbridge Dragon

Risk Level: Medium-HighReward: 75,000+ runes per dragon kill

This farming route involves slaying the dragons around the Greatbridge in Caelid. These dragons are no joke, and if you engage more than one, it often means instant death. I used ranged attacks and my horse to whittle them down. It’s intense, but the rune reward per kill is excellent if you can isolate each one.

5. Caria Manor Hands

Risk Level: HighReward: 10,000–15,000 runes per hand

Farming the giant disembodied hands in Caria Manor felt like something out of a horror game. They’re creepy, deadly, and hit like trucks. But once I learned to bait their attacks and use flame damage, I was able to farm them reliably. If you’re looking for cheap thrills—and decent cheap elden ring runes—this spot delivers both.

6. Siofra River – Ancestral Follower Ambush

Risk Level: MediumReward: 20,000–30,000 runes per full sweep

Though beautiful, Siofra River hides deadly ambushes. The ancestral followers here are deceptive—they look slow but can stun-lock you if you're not careful. I farmed this area early on with a strong spirit ash and AoE spells, which helped me build up my rune reserves before tackling bigger bosses.

7. Leyndell Royal Capital – Knights and Halberdiers

Risk Level: HighReward: 25,000–35,000 runes per circuit

The capital city is home to some of the toughest regular enemies in the game. I often ran into groups of knights and halberdiers that could quickly surround and kill me if I wasn’t careful. However, once I mastered backstabbing and learned the patrol patterns, I found this route rewarding—especially with a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot active.

Farming Elden Ring Runes doesn’t always have to be a slow grind. If you’re confident in your build and your dodging skills, these high-risk zones offer some of the best rune payouts in the game. From my own experience, success came through patience, memorization, and creative strategy—often swapping between melee and ranged tactics to handle different threats.

And if you’re just starting out or need a quick boost without grinding for hours, cheap elden ring runes can help you hit the ground running—especially for new characters or NG+ runs.
